West Texas Frequency was born out of observation. 

Upon moving to West Texas (Midland/Odessa area) in 2024, creator Kinsey Blake Haynes noticed not only a lack of shows in the area, but the shows happening had no coverage.

The local newspapers do not have entertainment sections. Upon asking to contribute, Kinsey was told there was not a need for entertainment pieces. 

While oil and gas are the main exports of the area, there is also good music coming out of and through the area with stories needing to be told. 

Build it and they will come.

About Kinsey:

Kinsey is a proud Alabamian.

She holds a Master of Arts in Teaching Community College Education with an emphasis on History from Mississippi State University and Bachelor of Arts in Communication with an emphasis on Journalism & a minor in American Studies from the University of Alabama.

She has been photographing shows since she was 16 and is always hoping to capture the moments that make music great. 

Until their hiatus in August of 2022, she worked with the Tuscaloosa, Alabama band, CBDB and followed them around the country: documenting their shenanigans and selling merch. 

She has covered national festivals from Warped Tour, Voodoo Fest, Rock On The Range, CMA Music Festival, and New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival among others. In addition to photography, she has also interviewed over 200 bands for various outlets including Linkin Park, Halestorm, Will Hoge, Henry Rollins, and AFI. 

She is also a Library Director and an Adjunct History instructor at a local community college.

Her experience ranges in all areas from Photography, Merch Sales, Writing, Editing, Radio Broadcasting, Print Newspapers, Teaching, Social Media, and Adobe Creative Suite.

Her other interests include following Hanson and Pearl Jam on tour, Gilmore Girls, collecting Curious George memorabilia, watching college football and basketball (the SEC is the best conference), and 90s and 2000s Nu-Metal.
